"Freedom Is Yours!" In This Twisted Red Band Trailer For UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING

Ben Umstead, East Coast Editor
There's no doubt about it, John Hyams' Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning is not the Universal Soldier of our youth. We may see Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme up there on the screen kicking and punching, hacking and slashing, growling and scowling, but these are only fragments of the characters that first appeared way back in 1992. So what is this then if it isn't a proper sequel? Well, if the new red band trailer is any indication, this is gonna be one twisted slice of nightmarish cinema, unlike any other action movie on the block this year. Dolph is rallying the troops with particular fervor. JCVD is gettin' his inner (and outer) Kurtz on, and Scott Adkins just looks like he's trying to come out of this shit alive and intact. Good luck, buddy. But don't take our word for it, we want yours. Does this full-on R look at the film entice you more than before, or have they gone too far and beat a dead horse into the ground (that ground not being ground at all, but lava)?

Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Andrei "The Pit Bull" Arlovski and Dolph Lundgren star in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, which ups the ante in the UNIVERSALSOLDIER series, giving you more hard-hitting, bloody, no-holds-barred fighting action. John (Adkins, The Expendables 2) wakes up from a coma after his wife and daughter were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. Haunted by images of the attack, he vows to kill the man responsible, Luc Deveraux (Van Damme). While John tries to piece his reality back together, things get more complicated when he is pursued by a relentless UniSol (Arlovski). As John gets closer to Deveraux and the rouge army of genetically enhanced warriors led by back-from-the-dead leader Andrew Scott (Lundgren), John discovers more about himself and begins to call into question everything he believed to be true.

Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning releases on VOD platforms October 25th in the U.S. with a theatrical release starting November 30th.

Is this Street Fighter: The Movie - Part Two? You have JCVD doing a flash kick and Dolph in a beret and olive wife-beater, looking like M. Bison and Cammy had a love child.

The trailer makes the film look like an attention whore. "Lookit me! I'm bloody! I'm gruesome! I tell you all this because I have a paper-thin plot and horrible acting." Plus, it's a Magnet release, which means it'll be prettier than a Full Moon production, but will still be a dolled-up, shiny pile of excrement.

  • ikilledbambi

to say the truth... this looks good

  • Black Dog

    "the rouge army"?

  • I was just told by a buddy of mine who is inside Dolph's camp that this trailer was cut by the director John Hymas. Apparently he was so miffed with all the previous trailers for the film he took it right into his own manic hands.

  • Sebo McPowers

Looks absolutely awesome! Love the strobe(strobo?) effects!

  • mortis rex

He does look like the lead singer from Norwegian Black Metal band Khold/Tulus.

  • Arthur Vandelay

Looks like "Universal Soldier" mixed with "Enter the Void" and "Apocalypse Now".

Least this movie is getting great reviews, it's nice to see the franchise go gonzo at least once.

  • Darkness

Hope at lease there is a story along with this violence last one didn't had 1 or why/how Dolph is still alive

  • Pete

I would say twisted nightmarish ultra violence would be a fair description of this film. Although if you see it in theaters, you will probably not get to see as many heads being knocked off as I did since they are releasing it with an R rating instead of being unrated.

  • WhyOfFry

So Van Damme is in the metal band "Khold" now?

  • moneenerd

    whut the serious fuck.
