Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Raven Banner Entertainment are proud to announce MANBORG Set for Release in the Canadian home entertainment market.
Toronto, ON - Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Raven Banner Entertainment are set to bring more action to the Canadian home entertainment market with the distribution of Manborg. Shot as a throwback to '80s sci-fi horror action films, Manborg tells the story of a dead soldier who finds himself reanimated as a cyborg killing machine, which Twitchfilm calls "a creative and hilarious love letter to the VHS sub culture".
"Manborg will unleash the inner 12 year old of those who grew up playing 80's videogames and watching cult sci fi movies. Director Steven Kostanski and the team at Astron 6 showthat imagination and creativity are not limited to a budget - they can in fact flourish in spite of it", Rob Herholz, General Manager of Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada. "Manborg has been aptly described as 'the cult film to end all cult films', and the festival demand for it around the world has been through the roof. We're proud to be bringing the film to Canadian home video, to allow the cult of Manborg to grow that much bigger", Andrew Hunt, Managing Partner Raven Banner.
Half-man, half-cyborg: Manborg. Killed while battling the forces of hell, a supersoldier is brought back from the dead in order to fight an army of Nazi vampires and demons led by the nefarious Count Draculon. Cue kung-fu killing, stop-motion monster battles, hoverbikes, robots, demons and a character named Doctor Scorpius.
Manborg, created by the Winnipeg based film collective Astron-6 (Father's Day) and executive produced by Colin Geddes and Peter Kuplowsky, is currently touring Canadian theatres. The film celebrated its world premiere at Austin's 2011 Fantastic Fest, and also impressed fans at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Fantasia and Lund Fantastik Fest.
"Manborg is an incredible achievement" says Don McKellar, and FilmThreat.com calls the film "A glorious mixture of claymation, computer graphics, practical effects, make-up and a DIY ethic that's above and beyond most science fiction movies being produced. Manborg is a total hoot".
