Say Hello To The New Twitch!

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
Faster loads times, more flexible navigation, and the same great content as always. Welcome to the latest Twitch. We're up and running today with the latest incarnation of our online home, one that has the site running faster while leaving a much greater degree of control in your hands. It only took eight years but we feel like we've finally gotten a navigation system that our high volume of eclectic content needs. You want to be hit by everything? No problem, that's all there when you arrive. Looking for only Asian content? Only American reviews? A couple of clicks and everything is sorted to your tastes. We're really pleased by how things have come together so take a minute to take the new navigation system and other features for a test drive and let us know what you think.

As with any new design like this, there are inevitably some things that weren't quite ready when we hit out launch time and are still being worked on, plus a few things that worked great on the test system that are being cranky here. If you hit something that looks like a glitch, please let us know in the comment section below. And suggestions always welcome!

Much snappier load up. Nice work.

Edit: Holeee Shyeet. I've been wanting comment editing for so many moons.

  • Mr. Cavin

Seconded. That's the big leap forward for me.

  • Tulipsnwindows

I'm digging the new look and I can comment easier now.

  • BigFo

Like the new look!! Is the mobile site coming back? That was the best, easiest website to access on a smartphone, which I do frequently.

  • Yes, definitely. That actually shouldn't have disappeared during the switch and we're trying to work out what happened there. As soon as we can get it back it'll be back.

  • BtoFu

Will the forum be reinstated? I know it's not the busiest place but I always enjoyed trawling through old threads and seeing Ard's fancy DVD pics.

  • Ard Vijn

The old forum will be there as an image archive of sorts, and will be available at a later date. Meanwhile I'll shortly set up a new forum on the Twitch Facebook page, so we'll restart the quiz there and this will allow other people to upload their fancy DVD pics as well.

  • VyceVictus

    Nice.

  • sitenoise

Big applause for the new look, have suggested same size images for a long time. Wish we didn't have to use a third party to comment but I guess there is no avoiding that these days ... bless you for not forcing FB, Twit, or G+.

  • Mr. Cavin

So far so good. I wondered why I couldn't seen to access my account last night. Actually, I'm still wondering about that a little. I have no idea where to access the log-in for my Twitch account. Am I doomed to be an Anonymous freak?

  • Mr. Cavin

Whoa. Looking around, I see that a lot of you are now anonymous freaks. I guess Twitch is still porting over all the account info? I see we can vote comments up and down now, too. I assume this will make them nest differently?

  • Yes, we have moved entirely over to Disqus for commenting. Spam filtering and hosting a native commenting system was just hammering our server resources. It was BY FAR the biggest resource drain on the site, even moreso than serving pages. And, weirdly, given the activity over the last day people seem a lot more prone to post comments using Disqus. It's been busy!

  • Mr. Cavin

It took me a couple of quiet minutes to figure it all out last night, but it seems to work well. I was happy I was able to port over all the content from my native account. I've never been in love with web 2.0's interest in social thresholds (promotions, likings, or otherwise leaving lateral comment moderation in the hands of the community), but whatever. I think this will be a good step forward, and I support anything that makes Twitch load faster. God knows reading this site from Bosnia-Herzegovina has been occasionally grueling.

  • looks awesome guys!

  • rupertbu

No cross-posting facility for G+ even though I can connect to leave a comment with G+! Yet G+ not actually working for sign-in, ultimately done with twitter

  • marmstrong01

    Things look great!
