First Footage From Park Chan-wook's STOKER Chills

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
Can Oldboy director Park Chan-wook make his distinctive style work in English? That has been the question ever since word first broke about the upcoming Stoker. The English language thriller written by Wentworth Miller and starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, Dermot Mulroney and Matthew Goode has been kept largely out of sight for the past year but the first footage has now arrived online following a preview on Entertainment Tonight.

And the verdict is good.

After India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
While it would be much more effective without the ET logo and commentary superimposed you can take a look at the first footage below.

Looks good. The script was pretty good and definitely allowed for the Park's baroque visual style to really elevate it.

Apparently Wentworth Miller (the writer) already has a sequel written.

  • Qinlong

Good, Nicole Kidman is looking like herself again.

  • Fabdex

I still think she looks like shit.

  • ColinJ

Yeah, it seems her ability to emote is back.

Maybe she gave the botox a rest for a few months.

  • Seems very, very similar to Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt. "Uncle Charlie"......they didn't even change the name of the uncle.

  • Josh Parmer

Well yeah, the writer says it starts off like the Hitchcock film, then completely goes its own direction. Supposedly one of his favorite films.

  • Hell yeah!

1st trailer is next week :)
