First Poster For Edgar Wright's THE WORLD'S END

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
So, the news out of Comic-Con is that Edgar Wright's The World's End - his third film with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost - has officially received the green light. This is fabulous and all, but hardly news given that everybody has known it was going to shoot in the fall for a couple months now.

No, the fun bit of the news comes in the form of the first official poster for the film, one which includes the list of pubs involved in Wright et al's epic pub crawl.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries.
What say you, London folk? Are these real pubs? Are you tempted to do the crawl yourself? And, more to the point, while Pegg and Frost are clearly going to be two of the three crawlers now would appear to be the time to figure out who the others are. And here are my completely uneducated guesses:

First, you absolutely cannot - or, at least, this particular group absolutely cannot - do a drinking movie with Dylan Moran. They're tight, they've worked together repeatedly in the past and drinking is totally Moran's thing. He's got to be in. And, knowing that they like to keep it in the family, I have to presume that they'll at least be making the call to find out if Peter Serafinowicz is available, too. If those two are correct, that leaves spot number five. Oh, number five. Reece Shearsmith or one of the other League of Gentlemen boys may be an option, but in my perfect world it would be one of Chris Morris, Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry or Julian Barratt.

You paying attention Edgar? Make it happen!

Partridge isn't filming until January so he may find a slot (pub landlord?). Thinking about it I figure the 5th slot is Adam Buxton with the obligatory Joe Cornish and Martin Freeman cameo.

  • Oh, lord ... there's so much room in this thing for cameos. Bill Bailey. The entire League Of Gentlemen. Walliams. Lucas. Mark Heap. KEvin Eldon. The Boosh guys and, yeah, Adam and Joe. I'll be surprised if most of 'em aren't tucked away in there somewhere.

Was thinking, too, that the fifth could easily end up being Paddy Considine or Michael Smiley (Kill List, Tyres from Spaced).

There's a pub near Waterloo (under the arches) that's called The Hole, but know as The Hole In The Wall too... I want these all to be real, but that's one hell of a (very) drunken walk from Camden.

There's a World's End pub in Camden, north London, and doing a quick bit of research on all those names, the one you'd figure would be most made up, there's a Famous Cock nearby in Islington.

Like the casting suggestions, I'm hoping there's a spot for Coogan and Mark Heap too.

  • Coogan would be awesome but I don't think he's gettable. They're prepping the Alan Partridge movie right now.

  • James Marsh

Sadly I'm pretty sure those aren't real pubs. The names sound too conveniently like chapter headings/plot points to be conveniently located within walking distance of each other. That said, if they do turn out to be true, I will absolutely be up for doing the pub crawl when I'm in London next month!
