Tim Roth Is David Cronenberg's KNIFEMAN

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
If the news a while back that David Cronenberg was set to direct the pilot and executive produce a new television series about a rogue, self taught surgeon caught your attention, then how about this? That surgeon will be played by Tim Roth.

Deadline report that Roth has signed on to play the lead in Knifeman, the upcoming series backed by Media Rights Capital. Sam Raimi is also on board as an EP with the heavy lifting being done by writer-producers Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald.

With the show being produced independently it is skipping over the whole pilot process and simply going straight to series with the idea being to find a network home after the fact.

This sounds very intriguing. I'm not thinking about House at all on this. I'd like to see this show end up on Spike, FX, or HBO.

Looks like I might have a new favorite tv series soon...

But isn´t Cronenberg taking a risk there, Mr Brown...?

If the series doesn´t get made at least we would had a TV-movie instead.

  • The series is getting made. MRC are financing it, then will find a network to show it.

NOW i get it......must missed it when I read your article the first time.....sooo no risk that all networks says no to this project...?

  • That's definitely a risk - and I assume if it happens they'll pull the plug at whatever point they've gotten to - but given who's involved I'd be shocked if it happened.

Yeah....but this is probably some House ripoff...and I guess, like you said that Cronenberg, Roth, are big names.....most networks would probably say yes.

  • I'm willing to wager this will be MUCH darker and more twisted than House. For one thing it's Cronenberg. For another, Roth is playing a SELF TAUGHT SURGEON. Think on that for a bit. How do you teach yourself to perform surgery? He aint working in no reputable hospital ...

  • mightyjoeyoung

    Really?

I wouldn´t be surprise somebody pitched this as "Just like House but much darker...and ehhhh..." hahahhahahhah.....And yes, the idea of a self taught surgeon is cool but this has already been touched upon in an episode of Chicago Hope (1994–2000).

But I like idea.....could be good.
