Peter Parker Brings Some Game To New AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Clip

When word came out of the Marc Webb directed Spider-Man reboot the main area that fans - perplexed as they were about why such a young franchise needed rebooting - agreed could be improved upon is the portrayal of Peter Parker. Somehow previous director Sam Raimi seemed to miss playful spirit of the character and correcting that was a major focus for Webb et al in this new version. And while new star Andrew Garfield is nowhere near high school age himself he definitely appears to have caught that spirit far better than Tobey Maguire ever did.

A new clip from the film - one that is all Parker, no Spider-Man - appeared online today that illustrates that point. We've got it down below along with a couple other recent clips.
Around the Internet:

Peter Parker was never quick witted as a teenager. Only Spider-Man was, that was the whole point. Parker came into this energy, somewhat, in later years, but never as a high-schooler. He certainly was never a tousled-hair, slack-jawed, taunting asshole like the character is portrayed in that first clip. That's straight up a modern re-imagining, which is fine, but let's not pretend it's truer to the source material.

i think garfield is a solid actor and will do a fine job in this. But tobey maguire as peter parker, that was just about perfect. can't top it.

  • Maguire always felt a bit hazy / distant for me. He definitely had his moments but - as with all of his stuff - he just seemed to be a bit sleepy all the time. Garfield has more of the quick witted energy I associate with the character.
