Nolan Reveals New THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Footage at MTV Movie Awards

While there is a strong argument to be made not to watch any more released trailers, clips or footage from The Dark Knight Rises, and just to sit tight and wait for its 20 July release, this simply isn't the way the big studios are marketing their movies these days. Chris Nolan treated last night's MTV Movie Awards audience to a tantalising 90-second montage of almost entirely new footage, giving over even more screen time to Anne Hathaway's Catwoman (aka Selina Kyle), Tom Hardy's Bane and Joseph Gordon Levitt's cop, John Blake.

While no definitive answers can be drawn from this barrage up imagery and soundbites, it does further fan the growing suspicions that Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne will be taking something of a backseat (presumably after getting his arse kicked by Bane), and that JGL's character will be following the Azrael character arc from the Knightfall comic book storyline. With Bale increasingly absent from recent teases, and Gordon Levitt moving further into the limelight, there is certainly an argument to be made here. This new teaser also suggests that Catwoman is at least partially in on the charade - in which wannabe superhero Azrael takes over the mantle of Batman while Bruce Wayne recovers - but that she may be playing at least one version of Batman off against Bane as part of her own personal agenda.

What is most impressive of all, however, is that with little over a month to go until this behemoth of a movie is set to be unleashed all around the world, we still know so little about what it is actually about. It makes a refreshing change, to be sure.

Off topic: James, enjoying the Society for Film podcasts, some great discussions over the past few dispatches. Especially appreciated the heads-up for Welt am Draht, interesting stuff.

That's very kind of you - thanks! We're still very much in the teething phase, but the acknowledgement that there are actually people listening - and enjoying - what we are doing is very much appreciated!

Was looking for a good film podcast after getting sick of all the 'not talking about film' and predictability of Kermode. Twitch was where I came looking first. A successful podcast is no doubt a tough nut to crack, but good luck.
