MEGAFORCE And The New Beverly Cinemas Are Calling To You This Saturday!

, Contributor

Attention Los Angeles area readers! If silver lame' jumpsuits, rocket launching motorcycles, and fighting for justice and freedom are your thing, then get down to The New Beverly Cinemas this Saturday, June 23, at 7:30 pm, and join in celebrating the 30'th anniversary of the camp classic Megaforce.

Patriotism, weapons gadgetry, and coiffed hair collide in this cartoony action flick from stuntman-turned-director Hal Needham (Smokey And The Bandit, The Cannonball Run) and starring the naturally hilarious Barry Bostwick, who does his best to jut out his chin and flex his muscles, even though he looks more like "Let's Get Physical" era Olivia Newton-John than he does G.I. Joe.

Along with showing a rare 35mm print, Hal Needham himself will be on hand to answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of his new biography Stuntman: My Car-Crashing, Plane-Jumping, Bone-Breaking, Death-Defying Hollywood Life (which can be ordered HERE if you are unable to attend the screening). If you need more encouragement to come join the Megaforce, there will also be vehicles and props from the film on hand to see up close and personal.

To boot, there will also be a bonus screening of my personal favorite Needham joint, Hooper. Starring his best friend and on-screen alter ego Burt Reynolds, Hooper is basically The Hal Needham Story, and is a showcase for stunt gags, as well as a peak into this industry of people who defy death, all for the glory of movie making.

Organized by film historian, collector, and curator extraordinaire Dan Simpson, this promises to be one big explosion of fun! Advance tickets are AVAILABLE HERE. Can you hear it? it's calling...calling...calling to you, and coming on like a Megaforce!
