ONG BAK Director Enters TEKKEN Prequel

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Crystal Sky Pictures has announced during the Cannes film festival that Dwight H. Little's live action fighting video game film Tekken will get a prequel under the titled Tekken: Rise of the Tournament and director Prachya Pinkaew of Ong Bak fame will helm the project. With his experiences within the martial arts genre, it would seem he's the right man for the job. Depending how you look at this collaboration, it may be an utter disaster waiting to happen or a match made in heaven.

There is no cast attached as of yet but Crystal Sky aims to find actors who appear like the characters in the game rather than casting A-list stars. Who knows, maybe with his connection, Pinkaew can roped in Tony Jaa or Jeeja Yanin for a part and have Panna Rittikrai choreograph the fights.

The production company is planning for a theatrical release in North America.  However, no distribution deal has been placed nor a release date has been set.

Prachya Pinkaew is a hack director. The only reason Ong Bak is so great was because of the action director/choreographer Panna Rittkrai , Tony Jaa and their stunt team

I dunno about Pinkaew, I just caught some of The Kick over the weekend and it's pretty terrible. Even the action sequences were pretty underwhelming.
