Duncan Jones Directing Biopic of James Bond Creator Ian Fleming

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
It seems such an obvious - and stellar - choice for a film that the only real question to ask is "Why has it taken this long?"

Duncan Jones - the director of Moon and Source Code - has been announced as the director of Fleming, a biopic about the life of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. A naval intelligence officer throughout World War II, Fleming created Bond as a highly romanticized version of his own war time experiences.

Backed by K5 and Palmstar the picture is due to go into production later this year. Which raises a second question: "Who do you think should play Fleming?"

Many moons ago Charles Dance played him in a mini series . I think it was called Goldeneye . He could definitely make a good older Flemming .

'Why did it take so long'?

One made 22 years ago. Starring ... er ... Jason Connery.

Well, it depends what period the film is going to cover.

If the film focuses on the war, we need an actor in his thirties.

However, if the film covers his writing years, we should probably get a guy who is in his late forties. Fleming died at 56, so someone like Geoffrey Rush, great as he may be, would be too old.

In either case, the actor should be someone who could've played a sorta understated Bond. I could imagine Ralph Fiennes as the older Fleming, but I'm a bit more uncertain about the younger version... A muscled down Tom Hardy?

Too old perhaps....but looks like him so I´m still hoping that he will get part ...besides 56, 61....not much difference...at least not me.

  • coldesser

Yeah, there's not a huge gap between 56 and 61, and Rush could pull that off. But unless the film is only going to cover his final years, the gap would start to become too big, I think. I just can't imagine Rush playing a man in his forties.

  • mightyjoeyoung

Well...Rush did play Peter Sellers as a young man in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004).

It looked weird but...it didn´t bother me.....also this biopic could start with his latter years, and doing flashbacks. I think Rush is still my number 1 choice.

    Geoffrey Rush......would be nice.
