Ghibli Retrospective: The Kids Talk NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND

Twitch is certainly not the youngest of movie websites, and a number of the writing staff have children that are old enough to understand and consume media in a way that is both raw and fresh, but also with the inklings of consideration.  In short, this is the age where many of us fall in love with the movies.  Thus, we are offering you the perspective of smaller children as they react to seeing classic animation on the big screen.  And what better way to kick things off with the works of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and the folks at Studio Ghibli.

The 15 film Ghibli retrospective has wrapped up at TIFF Lightbox last weekend.  The kids, Willem (age 9) and Miranda (age 7) close out their run of Miyazaki and Takahata (and one by Yoshifumi Kondō) films with the animated epic that launched the studio in 1984, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind!  The discussion ranges from Tolmekian and Pejite politics to the nature of Ohms blood, the spreading of toxic jungle of death and of course, bite-y squirrel-foxes.   Also, after the Twitch stinger in the video, there is a brief wrap-up segment wherein each one picks their favourite Ghibli feature; and some little further back and forth about points of common ground across the entire studio's oeuvre.

We hope you have enjoyed this series over the past month, and it is quite possible that video reviews by the kids will pop in on Twitch in the future, but for now, the entire archives of Kids Talk Film can be found over at Vimeo.
