Behind The Scenes Teaser For Action-Horror-Comedy COST OF LIVING, With Brandon Routh
Without a doubt one of my very favorite moments of Fantastic Fest 2011 was the premiere screening of BenDavid Grabinski's action-horror-comedy hybrid short film Cost Of Living.
The story of a pair of security guards in an experimental research facility caught in the midst of a creature breakout, the film is a slick, funny and scary (when it needs to be) trip into a world that would have fit right into John Carpenter's ouvre circa 1983 or so with Brandon Routh playing the Kurt Russell role. And, it must be said, playing it brilliantly.
Routh gives an eye opening performance in this thing, perfectly balancing action hero machismo with understated, quietly absurd humor. Bluntly, this film made me instantly understand that Routh has been consistently miscast because of his looks for his entire career. This is a funny, funny man. Edgar Wright figured it out in Scott Pilgrim Versus The World and Grabinski has got it right here as well and I pray that others will pick up on this and run with it going forward.
But enough of that. Grabinski has recently announced that the complete short will be released online February 14th - his little Valentine to you, I suppose, and has released a behind the scenes teaser to whet the appetite now. It's good stuff, check it below.
