THOR 2: Brian Kirk Out, Patty Jenkins In.
Back in early August word got out that Marvel was in talks with Brian Kirk to direct Thor 2. The news was widely embraced, Kirk having just impressed with multiple episodes of Game Of Thrones, but the thing about talks is that sometimes they don't work out. And these ones didn't.
Brian Kirk will not be directing Thor 2 after all with The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that Monster director Patty Jenkins has landed the job instead. It's a notable decision in that Jenkins becomes the first woman to direct a Marvel title since Marvel Studios became an independent body and surprising in that she has nothing at all in her filmography to suggest she can handle large scale action. Though, if we're honest on that front, original Thor director Kenneth Branagh had attempted action before with all of his attempts ending badly and he worked out just fine so I'm sure Marvel will provide Jenkins with whatever supports she needs on that front, just as they did with Branagh.
