Watch THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Teaser
The first teaser for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man has had a rough ride. First it leaked in incredibly rough bootleg form, something that upset Sony enough that they threatened to blacklist any website that ran it and contacted ad sale companies saying they would cut off all ad spending as well. Then, just as they got those low grade versions contained, someone got hold of a high res file of it and leaked that too. They were still unhappy. But now they've released it properly and it's out there for the world to see.
So, what can we expect from Webb, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone et al? Well, it's another version of the origin story, which we already knew but which is still a bit anticlimactic coming just three movies and nine years after Sam Raimi's excellent version of the same tale. But Webb looks to be putting a darker spin on it and Andrew Parker looks to be a much more compelling fit for the part than Tobey Maguire. Which is saying something because I actually liked Maguire in the role. Top to bottom the casting looks solid, actually, and the dramatic beats all ring true.
I've got to question the final sequence in this, though, the big web swinging, wall crawling bit. It's a very cool concept to do it all from Spidey's perspective but it also appears to be 100% CGI and not exceptionally good CGI, either. Unless they juice this up in quality a whole lot before the film releases it's going to end up looking and feeling like little more than a glorified video game cut scene.
But what do you think? Check it out below.
