CONFIRMED: Schwarzenegger Takes Lead In Kim Ji-woon's THE LAST STAND
[Now that the faux furor over Arnold Schwarzenegger putting his thing where it didn't belong has died down, Deadline is reporting that Kim Ji-woon's The Last Stand is slated to move ahead in September with Schwarzenegger in the lead.]
As originally published April 4, 2011: Could Arnold Schwarzenegger be taking the lead in Kim Ji-woon's The Last Stand? According to Slashfilm, that's exactly what's on the verge of happening.
The English language debut by the director of I Saw The Devil, A Tale Of Two Sisters and The Good The Bad And The Weird lost its lead when Liam Neeson walked a few months back and word is that Schwarzenegger is now deep in negotiations to take over the role as his return to the big screen post-politics.
Here's how Kim has described the film:
The flip side of this, of course, is that Kim is also accustomed to working with very high caliber dramatic actors and is something of a perfectionist. If this pans out you can expect Arnold to be worked over hard in that regard.

Here's how Kim has described the film:
This is surprisingly plausible for a couple reasons. One, the film is being backed by Lionsgate, who recently saw what a marketing bonanza Schwarzenegger can still be thanks to his brief cameo in The Expendables, which Lionsgate distributed and marketed. He made them money on that, despite barely being in it, so there's no reason to think he won't make them more money on this. Two, whatever you may think of his acting ability the simple fact is that Schwarzenegger has always had excellent taste in directors. He works with good people and Kim is very, very good indeed. My concept for The Last Stand is that it's kind of a combination of Die Hard and High Noon where (the latter) was about protecting something very important that needs to be protected, while Die Hard is a very drawn-out, long process that almost kills someone in the process, so my film will be something that has to be very well protected and in the process, we almost die protecting it in a way. So if I Saw the Devil was about a person's extreme remorse about having lost something that they couldn't protect, The Last Stand would be where someone puts their lives on the line to protect something that's very important and it will be a bit more optimistic film in that regard.
The flip side of this, of course, is that Kim is also accustomed to working with very high caliber dramatic actors and is something of a perfectionist. If this pans out you can expect Arnold to be worked over hard in that regard.
