LAFF 2011: 2 Clips From Robbie Pickering's NATURAL SELECTION

Ryland Aldrich, Festivals Editor

Without a doubt, one of the movies we are most excited to see at this year's LA Film Fest is Robbie Pickering's NATURAL SELECTION. The film cleaned up at SXSW winning Best Narrative Feature, Best Editing, Best Score/Music, Best Screenplay, Breakthrough Performance for both actors Rachael Harris and Matt O'Leary, and the Audience prize.

In Robbie Pickering's multiple-award-winning debut, Linda, a naïve, childless, devoutly Christian Texas housewife, gets more than she bargained for when she's asked to fulfill her dying husband's request to find and bring home his illegitimate son. The son in question turns out to be a wild escaped con on the run from the law--and Linda presents him with a perfect cover. They set off back to Texas on an absurd and dangerous odyssey of self-discovery that is both hilarious and oddly touching. Stars Rachael Harris and Matt O'Leary navigate the movie's audacious tonal swings with perfect pitch. -LAFF
