PT Anderson's THE MASTER Rolls June 13th.

It's on.

After much hemming and hawing and back and forthing among potential financiers it's now a sure thing. PT Anderson begins shooting his next film - now officially untitled, though previously known as The Master - on June 13th.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix will star in a story that began as a thinly veiled reference to Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and has since developed from there. The Weinstein Company have picked up global rights while billionaire heiress Megan Ellison is financing via her Annapurna Productions.

This one has been in the works for a while and, frankly, it's a bit stunning that Anderson has had such a hard time getting financing for his first film since the hugely successful There Will Be Blood. But nothing ever seems to come easily for Anderson and while the official line is that original financier Universal backed out over budget concerns most believe the reality is that they were spooked over a potential backlash over the Scientology angle. In which case thank god for both Ellison and the Weinsteins, whose notorious combativeness is a major plus in this sort of situation.
