Justin Erickson's BACK TO THE 80s Poster Series Now Available For Purchase. Sort Of.

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
As regular Twitch readers will no doubt recall, we recently presented a series of 1980s classic kids films at the TIFF Bell Lightbox - a lineup that included The Goonies, Gremlins, The Princess Bride, The Last Starfighter and more. And as part of that series the super-talented Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative created a series of custom posters for every film in the series. They were gorgeous and ridiculously limited edition. As in we made ten of each and they were not available for commercial sale at all.

This caused people stress, apparently, as with every poster that was unveiled both Justin and I would field multiple emails from people desperate to buy them despite our clear statements that we couldn't sell them. The next question would always be "Why not?" which leads to a long conversation about what exactly is involved with licensing rights to such things to do it legally.

But you know what? Erickson has found a way to do it. Art prints inspired by another property are completely legal for public sale provided that they do not include titles, credits, etc and so off came the title blocks and voila. The artwork can now be purchased by the public. What you see in this post is the art print version of Erickson's art for Gremlins.

They're still limited edition but limited edition in this case means 150 prints of each are available rather than ten. You can get them here.
