RA.ONE First Look Online Now!

A couple of days ago I posted an eleven second teaser for the first look trailer for Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming mega budget superhero film, Ra.One. Well, that eleven seconds has now been TRIPLED!

Unless you were watching the ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and Australia, you probably missed the new teaser for Ra.One.  I must say, Indian films are moving leaps and bounds ahead in terms of production value in the last couple of years.  There are some serious special effects and practical effects sequences on display in this trailer.  The best part is that they look good!

A lot of the sequences in this seem to have been lifted, at least in part from other films.  Specifically, there is a train sequence that looks very similar to a sequence in Superstar Rajnikanth's box office smash Enthiran (Robot), and I'm sure you could point out a few other spots that are more than vaguely familiar.  However, putting them all together and having them look real, is something that Indian film has struggled with, even with the help of American SFX firms as in Enthiran and Hisss.

The story of a computer programmer turned superhero seems a bit flimsy so far, but we really don't know much about the plot.  I'd imagine it will end up being convoluted, but what else are you gonna do with three hours of screen time to fill.  I also see some hints at dance numbers in this teaser, which will surely be stunning.

I'm really looking forward to this, regardless of how derivative it ends up being.  The only bad news is that I now have to wait seven more months as Ra.One is scheduled to come out for Diwali on October 26th.  Presumably to be followed in less than 8 weeks by SRK's second blockbuster of 2011, Don 2, which I am also excited about.

Roll on, October!
