Expect To See A Whole Lot More Of The Marvel Universe On The Big Screen.
Marvel has a problem. They're making great big buckets of money on movies based on their major characters but they're running out of major characters to base movies on. No offense to Edgar Wright but Ant Man just aint opening big. But, happily, they also appear to have a solution. And it's a good one.
And that solution is to make minor characters into major ones through a bit of well placed exposure. Such as, you know, making a series of ten minute films based on the Marvel Universe's lesser lights and running them in front of the major features. According to the Latino Review, that's exactly what they're planning on doing.
The benefits are pretty obvious. From a fan perspective its a chance to get a bit more bang for your movie going buck and see a few more favorites on the screen. From Marvel's perspective it's a chance to see which characters do and don't work for the audience and get a low-risk sense of which characters may merit their own features.
I'm 100% all for this idea, and think the only thing that could make it better is if they also used these shorts as a chance to showcase some young film making talent and use them as trial runs for up and coming directors. What do you think? And who would you want to see on screen?
