CHICAGO'S MUSIC BOX THEATER TO BE MASSACRED OCT 14-15
Those living in or around Chicago can get their Halloween started early by attending the Music Box Massacre 24 Hour Horror Movie Marathon. I attended last year and had a blast but for all the charms of director Gary Sherman being present at a screening of his little seen Dead Meat last years program barely holds a candle to this years.
From October 14 Noon – til noon on October 15 guests will have the chance to enjoy live music, a costume contest, dealer tables, doorprizes and most importantly a solid 24 hour program of horror classics and local horror shorts.
The Line up so far....
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Weine) (71 mins.) 1919
Bride of Frankenstein (James Whale) (75 mins.) 1935
It Came From Outer Space (in 3-D) (Jack Arnold) (81 min.) 1953
Masque of the Red Death (Roger Corman) (86 mins.) 1964
Homecoming (Joe Dante) (60 mins.) 2005
The Thing (John Carpenter) (109 mins.) 1982
Let's Scare Jessica To Death (John Hancock) (89 mins.) 1971
Deep Red (Dario Argento) (98 mins.) 1975
Night of the Creeps (Fred Dekker) (88 mins.) 1986
Zombie (Lucio Fulci) 1979
Friday the 13th Part 2 (Steve Miner) (89 mins.) 1981
Hosted by local filmmaker Rusty Nails in the beautiful vintage Music Box Theater the one-day festival does a good job of incorporating the known with the little seen. Highlights for me this year are Masque of the Red Death, Let’s Scare Jessica To Death, Night of the Creeps and Zombie.
Some might also consider it a highlight that DIRECTOR JOE DANTE IS SCHEDULED TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE!!! How on earth will I decide what to have autographed?! Word has it that other surprise guests will be in tow as well as MBM favorite and Late Night TV Horror Show Host, Count Midnight. Tix are $24 ahead of time and $29 the day of.
